Bread

Have you seen the ads on TV for this no-knead bread?

photo (24)

It is no secret that I love bread – grainy, crusty, heavy bread.  Yum yum.  Therefore I purchased this new product and made this bread today.  The yeast mixture (according to the directions) was supposed to foam.  Mine didn’t.  The dough was supposed to rise, just a little.  If mine rose, it was imperceptible.  However, I went ahead and baked it for the full time suggested.  It is very heavy and very crusty.   It doesn’t look like the picture on the box at all.  However, it truly was easy and quick – and filled with house with that wonderful bread-baking scent.

Yes, I tasted a small piece while it was still warm, and loved it.  A little butter melting on a warm piece of bread right out of the oven……………..oh my, so good.

Rulers

Rulers in the Ruler Stand, rulers in the basket, and rulers on the table. I counted my rulers today and discovered that I have 50 – FIFTY – rulers!
photo (19)
Recently purchased Nifty Notion rulers which I DID NOT NEED, but purchased anyway and I kinda like them.
photo (21)
A basket full of specialty rulers with instructions, which I seldom use but felt I just had to have them.
photo (20)
An Easy-Eight ruler package that is not even opened!!!!

And a “Magic Half Square Ruler” that I don’t remember purchasing.  Hmmm, it looks interesting.  I think maybe I will give it a try.

Why do quilters, like me and you, seem to need more fabric, rulers, books, ideas, cutters, sewing machines, mats, and thread?  When is enough enough?  I keep thinking that if I get that ruler, my work will be more accurate, or easier to do.  Now if the Magic Half Square Ruler actually made the half-square triangle and another cup of coffee, then it would truly be magic!

Kaye England

My niece and I took a three day class with Kaye England at a local shop.  We learned a lot about grids and figuring out the math to make most blocks.  Kaye used her Double Dozen book as an exercise for us to learn grid/block math.  Here are the blocks I made.

The one in the middle, far right, and the one at the top center I never would have attempted without the clear instructions and help from Kaye.
My niece was also very successful in her learning process and getting her blocks made.  Go visit her blog – Mustard Seed – to see her excellent blocks.
However, with all the UFOs already on my list, I’m afraid I will add this project to next year’s UFO list and safely keep it in a container.

On my To Do list each month are Artist’s Trading Cards and Postcards.  Here are my postcards for November, with the message on the back of “May your house be filled with the smell of turkey, the sound of laughter, and the heart of thankfulness.”

Those white spots are glitter.  I love glitter.  Glitter gets put on all my greeting cards, my ATCs and my postcards.  There is glitter all over my craft table.  It’s OK.  Glitter makes me smile.

Hexagons

Here is my progress on making hexagons.

photo (14)

I have been pulling fabrics from my 2-1/2 square scrap box and I think I need to pull a more vibrant color for the next round.  Perhaps reds, or white, or florals would punch it up a bit.

photo (15)

Maybe white/neutrals, then red as the final round.  I could use this as a table topper.  I don’t think I would ever have the patience to make a whole quilt of hexagons.  These are one inch hexagons and I only bought 1 package of 100 papers.  Hmmm, I haven’t figured out the math yet…….will I have enough for two more rounds?
